The
cottage is tucked away in the midst of a little
hamlet called “La Boutaudière”. You’d hardly know the
cottage was there and with its rustic French style,
it offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The hamlet is between
Civray which has
all the facilities you could need and
Charroux, a very pretty market town,
each only five minutes
away by car.
This
stone-built cottage, privately set in its own
gardens, is an ideal base for exploring the area, local
villages and countryside with many Romanesque churches
and mediaeval buildings or would be an excellent hide-away for
those who
are just seeking a bit of peace and quiet for a
relaxing holiday.
Set in the heart of the Poitou Charentes
in the southern part of the Vienne, there are a
multitude of treasures to discover, but if the weather is
good you won't want to budge from the cottage except
perhaps to do your shopping and sample the local markets.
Daily
requirements are all close to hand at Civray, Ruffec or
Sauzé Vaussais. Close on hand is the chteau at
Rochefoucauld, the
annual folk festival in
August at
Confolens (a must), the Monkey farm at
Romagne which children love, the Silver Mines at Melle,
visit the Chauvigny
Eagles
or simply enjoy walking or biking
in the surrounding countryside. Alternatively, with four
major cities easily accessible there are numerous
possibilities for days out to mention just a few…..
Poitiers,
renowned for
Futuroscope,
the futuristic adventure park with exciting images and
scientific wizardry, the town itself with Notre Dame
well worth a visit, Angouleme, Niort with its Venise
Verte or
Marais Poitevin a system of endless canals attracting an
abundance of wildlife, Limoges dedicated to porcelain.
La Rochelle with its annual international
summer
festival
is an easy drive of approx 1½
hours with its beautiful old port and fantastic sea food
restaurants, Royan with its fabulous beaches and the
La Palmyre Zoo incredible flamingos, the Ile de Ré or even
the Ile d’Oleron, Cognac for
brandy and pineau
distilleries. |
